Where do we stand on sexism
SEXISM IS A BARRIER TO EQUALITY AND TO WOMEN’S FREEDOM!
98% of women have already been victim of sexist behaviours on the street or on public transport, 95% in public places and 94%at their workplace! Sexism affects all women! Despite this, sexism is still lagging: women and men consider it the least serious discriminatory phenomenon when compared to other discriminations such as racism, homophobia, islamophobia or anti-Semitism. However, sexism has a significant psychological impact on its victims. 56% feel ashamed and 19% guilty! Women and men must learn to detect and decode sexism to face it be it as victim or as witness.
This survey explores the perceptions and experiences surrounding sexism. It provides a diagnostic overview of the phenomenon and identifies the tools for countering its mechanisms.
The questionnaire was sent to the JUMP database during the summer of 2016 and we collected 3394 replies.
