The misfortune of mothers

The misfortune of mothers

The more children a woman has, the more she reduces her income and working time. The more children a man has, the more he increases his income and becomes available for work. “Everything fits together, in an insidious logic relentlessly renewed” François De Singly in 1987. Still today in France (one of the top countries in Europe for equality with the Nordics), there is 42% of income gaps within heterosexual couples against 9% between singles. The health crisis is increasing the pressure on mothers who reduce their working time or take parental leave to cope with it, and therefore further reduce their financial independence. Women’s freedom is on the decline!
